What do we do during times of negativity?
A Message from Murshida Shaykha Muzeyyen Ansari
Recite the following verses from the Qur’an for 21 consecutive days:
Sura Al Baqara Verse 156 – recite once
- Allazina izaa asaabathum museebatun qaaloo innaa lillaahi wa innaa ilaihi raaji’oon
Al Baqara [The Cow]
- Those who, when a misfortune hits them, say, “In truth, we are from Allah, and that is where we will return.”
Sura Al Fatiha – recite 7 times
- Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim.
- Alhamdu lillahi Rabbil ‘Alamin.
- Ar Rahmanir Rahim.
- Maliki Yawm id-Din.
- Iyaka na‘budu wa iyaka nasta’in.
- Ihdinas sirat al mustaqim. Siratal-lazina an ‘amta ‘alayhim,
- Ghayril maghdubi ‘alayhim wa lad-daalin
Al Fatiha [The Opening]
- In the name of Allah, The One Who Acts with Mercy, The Source of Mercy.
- All gratitude and praise belong to Allah, the Lord of the worlds,
- The One Who Acts with Mercy, The Source of Mercy,
- The Owner of the Dominion on Judgment Day.
- We connect and devote ourselves to You, and we ask for Your help.
- Guide us to the confirmed and sure path.
- The path of those on whom You have bestowed Your grace, not of those who deserve Your wrath nor of those who misguide themselves.
Sura Al Ikhlas – recite 7 times
Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim.
- Qul Huwallahu Ahad.
- Allahus – Samad.
- Lam yalid wa lam yulad.
- Wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan Ahad.
Al Ikhlas [Sincerity and Salvation]
In the name of Allah, The One Who Acts with Mercy, The Source of Mercy.
- Say, “He, Allah, is Ahad [Unique; Formless],
- Allah is Al Samad [The Administrator of All Manifestation].
- He does not give birth, nor is He born,
- and nothing is equal to Ahad.”
Sura Al Falaq – recite 7 times
Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim.
- Qul a-uzu bi-Rabbil falaq.
- Min sharri ma khalaq.
- Wa min sharri ghasiqin iza waqab.
- Wa min sharin-naffaathaati fil uqad.
- Wa min sharri haasidin iza hasad.
Al Falaq [The Daybreak]
In the name of Allah, The One Who Acts with Mercy, The Source of Mercy.
- Say, “I seek refuge in the Rab [Lord] of the daybreak
- “From the evil of what He created,
- “And from the affliction of the darkness when it intensifies,
- “And from the negativity of those who blow on knots (doing evil magic),
- “And from the harm of the envious ones when they act with envy.”
Sura Al Naas – recite 7 times
Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim.
- Qul a-uzu bi-Rabbin-naas.
- Malikin-naas.
- Ilahin-naas.
- Min sharril waswaasil khan-naas.
- Allazi yu-waswisu fi-sudurin-naas.
- Minal jinnati wan-naas.
Sura Al Naas – recite 7 times
Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim.
- Qul a-uzu bi-Rabbin-naas.
- Malikin-naas.
- Ilahin-naas.
- Min sharril waswaasil khan-naas.
- Allazi yu-waswisu fi-sudurin-naas.
- Minal jinnati wan-naas.
Ayat al Kursi (Sura Al Baqara Verse 255) – recite 17 times
- Allahu la ilaha illa Hu
Al Hayy ul Qayyum
La ta’khuzuhu sinatun wa la nawm
Lahu ma fis–samawati wa ma fil ard
Man zallazi yashfa’u indahu illa bi–iznih
Ya’lamu ma bayna aydihim
wa ma khalfahum
Wa la yuhituna bi shay–in min ilmihi illa bima shaa
Wasi’a Kursiy yuhus–samawati wal ard
Wa la ya–uduhu hifzuhuma
Wa Hu wal Aliy ul Azim
Ayat al Kursi (Throne Verse)
- Allah, there is no ilah besides Him, Al Hayy [The Alive One; The Living One], Al Qayyum [The Self-Existing One; The Eternal One; The Caretaker]. Neither slumber nor sleep overtake Him. Whatever is in the universes and on earth belongs to Him. There is no one who can intercede with Him except by His permission. He knows what is ahead of them and what is behind them, and they can comprehend (or have access to) nothing of His knowledge or science except as He allows. His Kursi [Throne] encompasses the universes and the earth, and He is never tired of protecting and preserving them, and He is Al Ali [The Exalted One], Al Azim [The Magnificent One].
Sura Al Jinn Verses 1:4 – recite once
Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim.
- Qul oohiya ilaiya anna hustama’a nafarum minal jinni faqaaloo innaa sami’naa quraanan ajaba
- Yahdeee ilar rushdi fa aamannaa bihee wa lan nushrika bi rabbinaa ‘ahada
- Wa annahoo Ta’aalaa jaddu Rabbinaa mat’takhaza saahibatanw wa laa walada
- Wa annahoo kaana yaqoolu safeehunaa ‘al allahi shatata
Al Jinn [The Hidden Beings]
In the name of Allah, The One Who Acts with Mercy, The Source of Mercy.
- Say (O Muhammad), “It is inspired in me that a company of the jinn [hidden beings] listened, and they said, ‘Surely, we have heard an extraordinary lecture [the Qur’an],
- “‘Which guides to righteousness. So we believe in it, and we will not attribute anyone as partner to our Rab [Lord],
- “‘And (we accept) that He, our Rab, may He be glorified, has not taken a wife or a son,
- “‘And that the foolish among us used to speak concerning Allah an outrageous lie,
Sura Al Lahab – recite once
Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim
- Tabbat yadaa abee Lahabinw-wa tabb
- Maa aghnaa ‘anhu maaluhoo wa ma kasab
- Sa-yaslaa naaran zaata lahab
- Wamra-atuhoo hammaa latal-hatab
- Fee jeedihaa hablum mim-masad
Al Lahab [The Raging Flame]
In the name of Allah, The One Who Acts with Mercy, The Source of Mercy.
- The hands (i.e., power) of Abu Lahab will perish, and so will he.
- His wealth and what he has earned will not save him.
- He will burn in a raging flame,
- As will his wife, who carries around the fuel (of gossip and slander).
- She will have a rope around her neck made of palm fiber.
