Allah does not have a partner. And Allah does not need a partner. Allah is Generous and He wants to be known. That is why He is sharing certain things with you and each one of you He is sharing different things in different magnitudes, in different angles. So that is how you are perceiving Allah one-to-one a unique way. Nobody else is understanding Allah like you do. So this is particular to you. And do not think that this is the only way because Allah is particular to somebody else in a different way. When you talk to him, he may give you a different angle. So do not say this is wrong. Say, Okay this is different. So Allah has bestowed somebody else with different kind of knowledge or different magnitude, that is His business. We cannot mind that. All we can mind is we. So if Allah shares something with us, do not attribute that power, wealth or whatever with that… So whatever is in the heavens and the earth and everything else belongs to Allah directly or indirectly, actually directly! But sometimes it seems indirectly. So if Allah has shared you life, His life with you, this is Allah’s life. If Allah shares some intelligence with you, this is Allah’s intelligence. If Allah shares some money, power, boys, girls, women, men, this with you, then it all belongs to Allah.
So, the most important thing is shirk and on the contrary of what they think about Sufism, they think we are doing shirk, we are not doing shirk. We are very adamant about NOT DOING SHIRK. That is why, you should say A’uzubillahi minash shaytanir rajim [I seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the outcast] or Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim [In the name of Allah, The One Who Acts with Mercy, The Source of Mercy] before doing anything. This is what I want you to do: when you wake up, before you start anything, say A’uzubillahi minash shaytanir rajim, Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim for your day. And start your day with Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim. Allah gave this Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim to save you from shirk. Because there, you are acknowledging that it is Allah’s powers and it is Allah, He actually is the Door and the Owner of Praise and Power is Allah. We are acknowledging that, then play our role as this person.
So Sufism is very keen on not doing shirk. That is why we have to keep cleaning ourselves so that we have to detach ourselves so we cannot, our nafs will not pop up some place and say,”I did it. I am doing it. I am better than you, better than her/him, whatever. I have more money. I have more power.” These are all shirk business. Yes, you may have more power than somebody else but actually it is amaanat: Temporary. Allah, it is all Allah’s power, He can take it anytime He wishes.

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim [In the Name of Allah, Who Acts with Mercy, The Source of Mercy].
“Before we do anything, we say Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim. Before doing anything, this is our connection. When we say this, we have to think of the connection. Who are we doing with or Who are we doing for or Who is doing through us? Bismillah means In the Name of Allah. Bismillah also means With the Name of Allah.”
Murshid Shaykh Taner Ansari
“Any important work that does not begin with Bismillah is imperfect.”
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)
