Sifat and Af’al

Allah is trying to share His existence and His powers and His adjectives. Sifat means adjectives or modifiers. And His fi’l or af’al means His actions. So Allah’s Names are also divided into these categories. In a certain aspect, when you divide Allah’s Names, one is His potential and the other His kinetic name. And then He has balance names and He has jalal names and jamal names. So in order to be with Allah, you need to know Allah’s attributes, adjectives, His af’al. Af’al is the plural of verb, action.

The importance of learning Allah’s Adjectives

That is why we teach Allah’s Names, so that you learn how to see Allah around. Everybody should find at least three examples of each name.

For example, where can we see Qawi [Strong]? We can see Qawi in the rock, we can see Qawi in the steel, we can see Qawi in the granite, etc.

Another example: Allah is Rahim. Where can we see Rahim? We can see Rahim when the cat is eating the chicken? No, there is no Rahim there. Except when the cat is eating the chick, the hen is attacking the cat. You see the Rahim in the chicken, in the gazelle, in this, in that. When you need rain and it comes rain, you see it there.

I give you so many examples. Like this, you need to ‘see’ them. But you have to be on the look for this. Do not get carried away with the intrinsic value of what you are doing. Go into the real value of the things, try to see Allah in everything.

When you go into your nafs, that is where you cannot see Allah. Even there, you can see Allah. The opposite of your nafs is Allah. Nafs is ego. Your ego is the nafs, the desire that comes from the breath, from the air; it has no root; there is no foundation; it just happens there and it affects your brain.
